Roland VH-12 Hi Hat Pedal affecting other Pad input Problem

Postby ibanman555 » Sat Dec 19, 2020 6:38 pm

Hi Hat Pedal position is affecting Snare (input 4) high level and playability. The second photo shows the full dynamics of my snare pad with hat Pedal open. However, once I fully close (tight) the hat pedal and strike the snare pad, the hi level is cut, and occasionally retriggers, as seen in the first photo. From what I can see Tom1 and Tom2 are also affected. How can I find the solution to this problem?

Note Roland VH-12: Pedal Hi - Lo;
Fully Open -> 1013 (my Hi setting)
Fully Closed -> 830 (my Lo setting)
Tight Closed -> 37 (it's always been this way, and this is when the other pads levels are affected)

As a temporary solution, I have disconnected the bottom hat pressure switch(s). The VH-12 bottom hat has sensors or switches around it's diameter that I assume engage when tight pedal pressure is applied. This causes the Lo Pedal value to plummet and also is responsible for the strange behavior in my original post. However, I would still like to understand why the drastic Pedal level value change could cause other inputs level settings to change, I feel they shouldn't. Even after this temporary solution, I can only receive a max velocity of 126 on Snare with Pedal fully open, and with pedal fully closed, I can get velocity 127 on Snare. So something odd is still occuring.

I've attached pictures to show this process. Take the bottom hat and remove all screws except the two near the link connector. These last two screws fasten the link connector to the rubber cover and don't need to be removed. Lift either side of the rubber and you see 2 small circuit boards on either side with a thin, clear plastic strip connector that inserts into a black connector located on both circuit boards. Gently wiggle and pull these strips away and leave them resting. Repeat on the opposite side. This disconnects the bottom hat pressure sensor/switch and eliminates the extreme Lo Pedal value from occuring in a tight press of the pedal, which serves no purpose with MegaDrum at this time, to my knowledge.

How old is your MegaDrum? Do you have a 10k resistor between tip and ring on the Pedal jack?

Purchased in 2013, and an updated board a few years after that. I have a resistor installed in line.

In line where and what resistor value?

Do you have a Positional sensing addon board? If yes, have you shorted PosJump pins on the main board?

I do have a PS board, but the jumper wasn't shorted. It is now.

You have to re-adjust the Pedal and the Snare settings after you shorted the PosJump.
