You have to be in the same directory where mdfwupdate.exe is located.

ok, have tried that as well , still getting same message. Have tried doing it normal way, with protected bootloader and through cmd from megadrum folder. The furthest I got was from the protected bootloader method where it started the time countdown (very slow went up to around 8 mins, tiny bit of green) then stopped responding. The unit now is blank (blue) when you turn it on and will not function other than to go into update mode adjust clock etc when you hold button down powering on. At least before I tried updating the firmware it was functional through ableton if not able to work through megadrum manager. :(

The bootloader is there so you can always load the latest firmware.

Step by step describe what you do both on MegaDrum and on your PC and what you see at every step.

Doing it from megadrum manager
Switch megadrum on holding left button in so it goes into bootloader mode, select 20 htz frequency.
In megadrum manager half of the time it was showing the firmware (old) other half of time it was showing ?????? for firmware, so I wanted to update the firmware.

Main- options - firware upgrade - open- megadrum128562012.0911.bin
start-yellow line-megadrum is not responding message

Protected bootloader method
Switch megadrum on holding left button in so it goes into bootloader mode, select 20 htz frequency.
browse for firmware megadrum128562012.0911.bin
run megadrum upadate, have tried using initial settings listed as
.
midi in MIDIIN2 (MegaDrum USB MIDI)
midi out MIDIOUT2 (MegaDrum USB MIDI)
and also

midi in MegaDrum USB MIDI
midi out MegaDrum USB MIDI

This started going into a (real slow looking, time keep going up) transfer countdown once with the
....midi in MegaDrum USB MIDI
midi out MegaDrum USB MIDI..... then stopped responding.
Now all I get is *error opening file* messge now its in this locked bootloader mode.

Using cmd from firmware folder
Switch megadrum on holding left button in so it goes into bootloader mode, select 20 htz frequency.
shift and right click in folder with firmware , run cmd, type mdfwupdate.exe megadrum644_20111213.bin into cmd it says not recognised as internal or external command

You skipped this step from the instruction:
7. In MegaDrum press the key DOWN. It will display 'StartUpdateOnPC'.

browse for firmware megadrum128562012.0911.bin
run megadrum upadate, have tried using initial settings listed as

You're not running mdfwupdate.exe from the same directory where it is located. After you ran 'cmd', how did you navigate to a directory where mdfwupdate.exe is located?

Sorry, I did do that step, I have only forgot to write that I did it. The firmware and bootloader are on a folder called megadrum in my d drive so i go.... d, megadrum, shift and right click on this folder which gives me option to open command window on that folder

The more details you skip the less likely you will get useful help.

Once on cmd, run 'dir' and post a screenshot of the output.

mdupdate.exe
mdfwupdate.exe

Spot the difference?
