Q: Computer specs needed to run megadrum efficiently.

Postby kerem34 » Thu Jan 15, 2009 9:33 pm

Im planning to get the all in one kit pcb 2.8 and complete the megadrum module.
And then make my drum triggers ( hardware etc.)
Lets conside ive done these.
What else do i need to start drummimg.
I guess there will be a latency problem after all. (will there be?)
Will i need a good sound card? (will be happy if you recommend)
after getting a sound card will there be delays caused by the slowness of my computer when using vst plugins like toontrack ez-drummer?
What type of system do you recommend as a computer?

Thanks in advance ;)

Probably for the most part going to come down to the software you want to use it with. Like EZDrummer or Superior Drummer 2.0. Probably going to have to base specs off what they are using. As for the sound card your probably going to need some way to get the sound out of your computer. I have a USB DAC I'll probably use in a studio type setup. You can use a sound card though and if your looking for something really nice the M-Audio stuff is fantastic.

Thanks daddy4life85

Anyone used one of these cards?

M-Audio Audiophile 2496 PCI Digital Audio Card - $99
E-MU 1212M PCI Digital Audio System v2 - $149.99
M-Audio Audiophile 192 PCI Interface - $179.00
M-Audio Delta 1010 LT PCI Digital Audio Computer Interface - $199.00

any of them you can recommend or which one do you think is enough for this job?
most of the reviews for these products are 5 stars but the price is getting higher. I'm planning to make a computer with these specs:

INTEL Core2 DUO E8400 (3.0GHz,1333MHz,6MB,LGA775) BOX
MSI P45 Neo3 (Intel P45, GLAN, SATA, RAID, LGA775)
Ram OCZ DDR2 1066 2048MB (1x2048MB) Platinum Edition

so i dont want too spend too much money cause im going to make the megadrum and the e-kit too. Any ideas or recommendations?

M-Audio Audiophile 2496 PCI Digital Audio Card is sufficient.
I use the M-Audio FastTrack Pro.

Your setup is very good.
Do not hesitate to put a lot of memory ! ;)

And by the way i found this instructable:
http://www.instructables.com/id/Electronic_Drum_Pad/
It may be helpful for the ones who are planning to make there own triggers&set.
I'm planning to make mines according to this instructable too..

These are my specs
Asus laptop
CPU T5600
2 gb RAM
120 gb hard drive
built-in sound card

I use ASIO4ALL drivers (www.asio4all.com). Those drivers are asio drivers for any sound card that has not its own. All my applications, from the simpler Ezdrummer to the professional Superior 2, run very smoothly without latency

I use the M-Audio Delta 1010, but at $200 unless you need the 8 in/out there are other cards/devices that would suit you better...

I have the Firewire version of the Mobile Pre USB, forget the name haha.

You should be able to get more memory for not much more money :) 4gb of ram right now is like 35 bucks.

some mobo's don't support that much memory. Mine is limted at 2Gb, but it's a shuttle so what should I have expected.
