Yeah I tried both 20 and 16 with the same result.

Hello, I'm back after a crazy school semester... I now have Windows XP running again virus-free! :)

Now I need to try that midi-ox method, but I'm not sure exactly what to do...

That thread says to add those 4 hex bytes to the .hex, and rename it .syx...

There's already some .syx files available on the website to download; are these different?

I'm not sure if I'm supposed to download the regular firmware, or the bootloader firmware...

See http://www.megadrum.info/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=622 for up-to-date step-by-step instructions starting with "1. Power MegaDrum up while holding the key LEFT pressed..."
Your bootloader is of an old type so you must skip step 6. You need the regular firmware from http://www.megadrum.info/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=58
You will need the firmware file megadrum644_20_32_xxxxxx.syx, where xxxxxx for the latest firmware is 090326

Upon pressing the down arrow on the megadrum, the MIDI activity LED lights up... when I send the sysex from megadrum, nothing changes; the light just stays on, and the LCD just says to send sysex now...

I also tried doing it at 16 and 24 mhz, using those firmwares... same thing.

You must choose 20MHz.

Please, step-by-step describe in details what you do when you follow the procedure and I'll try to see where the problem is. I also suggest you to try the same procedure on another PC.

-Turn computer on, wait for XP to load
-Plug in Megadrum through USB, hold down left arrow
-Choose 20 on the megadrum
-Open Midi-Ox
-Set the output buffer to 60000
-Choose "USB Audio" as the output.. this is the megadrum, the only MIDI device I have plugged in
-Sysex, view sysex, load the megadrum644_20_32_090326.syx firmware
-Click the down arrow on the megadrum
-Send in midiox

You set Output buffer Size to 60000 and not Num, didn't you?
Also try this as macca2004 did and apparently it helped:

I changed it from the syx view window. I selected the sysex/configure menu and changed the delay from 60ms to 100ms in both boxes.

Did you try on another PC?

Okay, I got it!!!!!!!! :D

I had to change the delay to 100ms, and choose sysex>file>send sysex instead of sysex>command window>load file/send sysex

I now have the latest firmware installed!!

But MCT still doesn't work... I have set it to 644, 20, bootloader v2, but I can't send/receive settings to the megadrum.

Only firmware update is broken in MCT at the moment so you should be able to control all settings with MCT and for controlling settings it doesn't matter what MCU/Crystal/bootloader you select. If it doesn't work, then you probably didn't properly select MIDI In/Out in MCT. Also read this: http://www.megadrum.info/forums/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=682
