kit for megadrum!

Postby ohawker » Tue May 13, 2008 10:47 pm

hi everyone

i'm building a big electric kit to go with megadrum, but im facing two main design challenges (simple ones, but im stumped)

1. see on the attachment i have circled the joints holding the frame together? i have searched and searched online for the bars and joints to make this frame out of, so far i have got as far as using plumbing tubing for bars and wood-screw brackets for joints (not ideal). Has anyone any suggestions as to where i could get joints similar to those shown in the pic?

2. i am hoping to make the full 31 pads on my kit, so they need to be cost effective. much as i would like to refurbish 31 remo practice pads i simply cannot finance it, so i need to literally build pads from scratch. anybody have any ideas/links to maybe just an exploded diagram of the structure of a pad or something?

thanks in advance!

Maybe it is too expensive for you

You can also use plumbing plastic T joints, can't you?

If you want to build everything from scratch you have to be creative.
It really helps to look on the forums and make a few ideas for the same problem.
You can even check out you tube videos, some are really good!

This guy build everything from scratch. So maybe you should send him a message?
In the video his tells a little about the build.

You should also check out the vdrums forum. You can find a ton of good ideas there.
Check out the DIY sub forum! http://www.vdrums.com/forum

This gui made himself a few drumsets.

Not sure if you're still trying to build a rack, but from the vdrums forums, it seemed like a general concensus that it's better (and often just as cheap) just to buy a used rack rather tan build one yourself. Save yourself the trouble.

I used 1-1/4" pvc fittings that i drilled through and light guage 1-5/8" galvanized fence post for chainlink fences. They fit perfectly together. You can see what I did in these pictures.

I probably have $100-$120 usd in the rack and the mounts if you were talking to me. :D I am currently working on one that will be doable for around $80 usd. I'll post pics when it's together. I'm working on a complete 5 pc set with 3 cymbals for around $200 usd without the accessories (throne, pedals, and module). I intend to post some pics and possibly a materials list if anyone is interested.
