Variable Hi-Hat Controller

Postby Hertogjan » Fri Feb 18, 2011 3:38 am

I need a schematic/design for a variable Hi-hat controller.

I've been searching online and I've found that people either use switches, potentiometers or phototransistors(??).

From what I understand the potentiometers are the most realistic only they wear out fast so people use phototransistors. The only problem is that the only designs I have found are either unreadable bc when I zoom in its so pixelated or the links are broken.

Does any one know any links that work?

I also have a picture of a photoresistor design only I dont know what the parts are involved. If anyone could tell me that would be amazing.
Also I don't get how they are connected to the drum module since I understand its an circuit that creates a voltage across it.

Any info would be a great help.

Thanks

Hertogjan,

Look at this link (has some magnet material & hall effect sensors ideas):

thanks for the link and the fast reply, I'm reading through it.

I dont want to use my real hi-hat. I'll be using a single plastic cymbal as my hi-hat and then a seperate pedal. I'm rethinking that decision though. Maybe I can make a hi-hat stand and use the Hall design.

You can use the hall effect design in a separate pedal like this
If it ain't broken... fix it until it is.

I think the hall effect design is definitely the best route to take. I have built several of the optical design and never been perfectly happy with the design. That hall effect in a pedal is by far the easiest that I have seen.

Thanks for all the info guys!

This saved me a lot of trouble. I'm going to pick up a Hall sensor now. This seems way easier than all the other options, and if its more reliable then thats fantastic.
