I believe that your question is answered by talrusher in a different thread here.

The following text is from the above link:

I hope this helps.

I took talrusher's advice and I bought a 10k Ohm resistor on the way home from work today. I did not want to tweak my VH-11 Foot Controller cable so I took a shortcut and soldered the resistor directly between the tip and the ring pins on the Hi-Hat Controller TRS input on the MegaDrum module.

I turned on the MD and I let the unit do its "Auto Leveling" magic, and... Wow!!! My VH-11 now feels über-smooth with real fine and granular control. Before the resistor my "auto-leveled" High and Low levels were 44 and 192; after the resistor my "auto-leveled" High and Low levels are now 46 and 892!

Based on my experience, the addition of the 10k Ohm resistor between the tip and ring on the Hi-Hat Controller input has resulted in a drastic improvement and has made my VH-11 infinitely more playable.

Hi!

I have been sick in fever...but with this knowledge, i could not wait. I found a 15k Ohm resistor in my toolbox...mounted it as recommended, between the tip and ring connectors inside my MegaDRUM-32

After testing - I can just confirm - The Hihat control reacts in a much better way - It is a big difference. It is easy to keep the hihat slightly open, it is faster to react on fast openings. I am still using ALTIN + False triggering. The pedal levels is now for low 44 and for high 892. Very similar to Cors findings. (I have adjusted it slightly down to 38 on the low level)

I am using Addictive Drums - Metal Pak as sound generator.

My new MDS File can be downloaded here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/wl5apvf05glxy ... MV4_93.mds

Thanks to Talrusher @ Cor for the knowledge.

Best regards

I just took a couple of beers(or at least thought about it..) and my MegaDRUM...and started to play around with it...after a half pint of the beer...and mixing with all settings for the VH-11/Hihat in MegaDRUM Manager, I think I accidently nailed the right feeling...The secret seems to be in the cc reduction level...if setting this to 3...the hihat gets equipped with a very nice feeling. I was not able to record to today..I have upgraded to a new version of VSTHOST 1.53.1 (The 1.53 was more stable) So I can't give you any proofs today. But It was a big difference.

I have also tried to get the midi signal to move between 0 and 127..but failed on that. What I can see was that I needed to step down a bit on the high value to make it go to up to 126 at all.

See my MDS file for full story.

as i understand you right, the footcontroller reacts too slow and inconsistent?
if you have such a footcontroller liek me from Roland with a rubber in it, you have to open and clean it and after this you have to put many, many, really many lubricate on and beteween it. have done this, now the footcontroller reacts very fast. the insonsistence you should solve, by soldering the poti like youve done and set the Input from alternate to normal. i have cc reduction set to 0 because with enabling this the Feeling is very unreal. my cc notes are consistent after this two tricks like they should.. and like you, i never reached the full range of cc notes with the reduction. think this is i Kind of Buggy, but you dont have to you this.

maybe i could help you. give it a try.

Talrusher, I am using a Roland VH-11...which has nothing in common with the FD-8 which i assume you where using. It is mounted on a real hihat stand...etc.

There has according to other forums been problems with the VH-11 sensor...where you need to replace the sense mechanism...but mine is working fine on my Roland TD-6 box.

So...cc reduction levels to be or not to be is the question....

oh... olkay ^^

i know your hat, but i thought the pedal is maybe the same in its Funktion... okay...

... i think the lvl reduction is to slow and inconsistend. if you want peformance and a good Feeling, you have to tweak your peadl mechanism and disable the reduction.

edit:

... or dimitri have to do something with the whole Trigger Suppression. think the Suppression feels realy bad if set a tiny bit too high. with the cc lvl reduction its the same: set the smallest Option is even too many... b

No problem talrusher,

I am waiting for cruiten to test it also( he is a Vh-11 owner also) and comment on the cc reduction level.

However - I saw some real misstakes (by me) in Addictive Drums in terms of settings...so I have corrected them. I was then able to go back to the hihat pedal settings and actually use 0 for the cc reduction level without any losts in feeling.

What do you think?

yeah, the open to closed state, sounds much faster and better... but try to disable the alternate Input and go the normal way for the hh pedal...

i have made a mds file for you, if you want you can compare the footpedal Settings. i dont have have set my peadl to alternate iput, becuase it feels some Kind of strange to me. for me the normal input Methode is the best.

my whole kit is diy, so some Settings may looking strange for you...

...i am allway experimenting and looking for better Settings, so this are not the final Settings.

best regards ;)

Talrusher - Thanks!
I am going to dissect your MDS file...Yes..It looks a bit different.. :-)
How was it now..was your hihat also a DYI? Not a FD-8?
