Cheaper alternative to PIC18F2550

I just updated the first post with a new USB MIDI firmware version which supports 2 MIDI interfaces. With 2 MIDI interfaces it is possible to use one to configure MegaDrum with MegaDrumManager and another to be used by any other MIDI software.

Is it only good for 18F2450? Does 18F2550 support this feature?

Has anyone managed to program a PIC18F2450 using the ICSP cable???

I've updated the first post with a new version in which I added support for switching to higher MIDI speeds to reduce latency when used in MegaDrum over USB only. This capability will used in an upcoming MegaDrum firmware.

After 20 days or so I have managed to program the 2450 using an external programmer and my Megadrum is ALIVE at last!!! I wired only a piezo and it shows up fine in Megadrum Manager (I haven't wired an LCD yet, maybe I won't) and it triggers EZ Drummer nicely... Thanks a lot Dmitri!!!

Is it possible to include a bootloader in pic's firmware to enable its update without resolving to iscp or (even worse) to removing the pic from megadrum's board and into a programmer?
