i'm on a Mac and can't run MIDI-OX.

the switch reads:
NOTHING when pressed (the VRS switch is always pressed - that's its design i believe)
NOTHING when released.

but it's not a normal switch.
it's more like a reed switch i think.

it has 2 wires coming out from it,
one going to GROUND
one going to EDGE signal

i think his VRS switch is sort of a normal switch, but backwards/reverse.

i believe it's always closed, and when not struck it sends out a PRESSED signal.

but when struck/opened, it sends out an RELEASED signal.

you see? the reverse way around.

If it's a real switch it must read 0 Ohm either in pressed or released state. In this case either find a Mac utility which can monitor raw MIDI messages or borrow a PC and use MIDI-OX.

If it's not a real switch, e.g. a Keith Raper circuit, then it won't read 0 Ohnm in either state. In this case I cannot recommend proper settings or the right way to configure it but others used Keith Raper circuit with MegaDrum and claim it works. In this case ask about it in your own topic: http://www.megadrum.info/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=603

as of now - it's not working, and i've tried it all.

the VRS kits for cymbals DOES NOT work with the MegaDrum.

anyone wanna buy a VRS switch?
for me it has been money out the door.

Did you find out if the Edge switch is a normal switch or a piezo with a Keith Raper circuit?
If it is a normal switch is it a 'press to make' or 'press to break' switch?

it's not a switch
and it's not a Keith-Raper type circuit.

i'm still waiting for an answer from Jerry/JmanWord for a few questions i had for him.

but i'm pretty sure his VRS-switch should still work like a "make to break"-type switch.

If you have a multimeter can you measure resistance on a cable coming from the cymbal between the sleeve and the ring when you press the edge switch and when you release it?

yeah i tried that - but there is no resistance to be measured.

i'm still sure it's not a keith raper type switch, nor really a mechanical switch.
it looks to me as if it's something "new", and hence why he not giving out any real details.

and i'm not even sure if he'd like me to put up images of the thing...hmm..

Why don't you take the project box on the cymbal apart and share some photos of what's inside? I'm theorizing you'll find it's comprised of:

* Modified Keith Raper circuit to provide increased sensitivity
* Extremely small piezo mounted at the edge, and under the "arm" that runs from the project box to the edge of the cymbal
* I'm not sure if the "arm" actually moves or is simply stationary to cover the wires and piezo, but I read one thread where someone developed an articulating arm that would move slightly and hit the piezo, thus activating it. Grab the arm, it hits the piezo, strike the edge, it hits the piezo.

I've never seen one of these in person and am only making guesses based on photos and past discussions I've read where JMan has participated in discussing solutions to the Roland multi-zone cymbal problem (way back when before he started selling his VRS kits).

:?: Has anyone found a solution yet? I have several of jerrys cymbal triggers and I really would like to get a MegaDrum. I guess this is something I need to know before I purchase. :?:

According to Jman's reply when I emailed him about his cymbal conversion kits, he doesn't sell them for use with a MegaDrum anymore because one user who tried it couldn't get it to work.

That being said, if there is a way to make it work, I'm sure he would be glad to hear about it.
