who has Jerry's/JmanWord's cymbal VRS kits?

Postby ole_hansen » Wed Apr 15, 2009 6:45 pm

i just got mine - and i'm having a hella time trying to figure out WHY it won't work.
the piezo work fine (BOW), but the VRS/EDGE switch won't work.

BOW is set to #53

EDGE is set to send out #51
dualhead: YES
Type: SWITCH

i've contacted Jerry already, but i wanted to hear if anyone has the same sort of problems (or had)

Did you read http://www.megadrum.info/content/pads-settings about how to configure 2/3 zone pads/cymbals?

yes. i've gone through it again and again.
still not a "sound" or a midi note out of it.

i'm sure it's the installed KIT's fault (not saying anything bad about his products) - i just know for a fact that that particular input on my MD works, with piezo's and switches.

Can you describe the steps you did to configure it?

sure.

plugged in the BOW/EDGE jack into the MD (the first RIDE input).

set BOW midi note to 51
set EDGE midi note to 53

set up Superior 2 to recognize midi notes 51 and 53 for "ride" and "push"/edge

set Type in MD to: Switch for the RideE
and set it to YES (no, yes or 3WAY).

Did you adjust Threshold on the Edge?
Did you set BThreshold on the Edge to 0?

What was the Edge Threshold before?
What is the Edge Threshold now?
Why did you reduce it?

the EDGE threshold was the standard 30 before.
i simply reduced it because i was trying to figure out if that was what was wrong.
no need for it. it WAS reduced to 20 and now it's back at 30.

i'm starting to think his switch doesn't work with the MD...
hopefully not - otherwise it's $328 bucks down the toilet (plus 25% taxes to get the package into Europe).

Did you use MIDI-OX to properly set Threshold watching 'aftertouch' MIDI messages as described in http://www.megadrum.info/content/pads-settings?
You can check the Edge switch with a multimeter. It should read close to 0 Ohm when the switch is pressed and infinity when released.
