Either you have to go (cd) to the directory where the firmware file is located or specify a full path to the firmware file.

Thanks Dmitri,

Ok, i understand the path or the directory indication; i did...but see. Damned i am cursed...
what's wrong with that? the command?

another thing I noticed that MEGADRUM got stuck on "sartupdateonpc" mode. You said with a mac we have just a second to press enter to load the new firmware...Magadrum unit did but not at all. I thing it's weird. What do you think about this?

Why are you trying to run "open" command? You should type "./mdfwupdate megadrum1284_56_20130210.bin" from the directory you are in, without any "open" and not omitting the leading dot.

mdfwupdate doesn't use Java.
Make sure you follow steps exactly, especially steps 7 and 8:

7. In MegaDrum press the key DOWN. It will display 'StartUpdateOnPC'.
8. On the PC press Enter. Note, on Mac OS X this must be done within 1 second after step 7 otherwise MegaDrum bootloader will reset itself.

1.
I can not start all programs you recommended:
MDFUpdateGUI
Mdfwupdate
MDUpdate

What is a reason ? I use Win XP.

I know that I can upload new version by a DOS window and I can do it but i am thinking why I can not use these programes ?

2. why in these examples *.bin files exist ? In older version *.hex and *.syx exist ?

In this topic I suggest to use mdfwupdate only. What problem are you having with it?

Because I switched to an encrypted firmware in 2010.
